For years I've been obsessed with the notion "development", which is the paramount goal that governments from all parts of the world strive for. I've been having a love and hate relationship with this lovely term. A lot of people, including government officials, social entrepreneurs, economists, seem to know what it means. However, what my everyday life, the people around me, even the society to which I belong to, does not happen to prove it. Constant questioning, doubt, uncertainties at the personal level have left my head and consciousness exhausted. Some friends are whining persistantly about how tiring and meaningless their work is, how overbearing their colleagues are, whereas others are consuming an unnecessary amount to get emotional satisfactions and a sense of honour. In my hometown, the stinky extreme capitalists and the "loyal" and highly educated civil servants have unfortunately lost their mind.

"So are you 'Han'?" My Colombian classmate was very curious. I hadn't given much thought to it until I came across this question right in the face. 

Han dynesty (206 BC–220 AD), was when old "Chinese" (as known in the Western world) or, more precisely, Han characters (also known as Kanji in Japan & Kanja in Korea as "sister systems") were standardized. The first dictionary of Han characters《說文解字》published in 120 AD, explaining the six principles of Han character formation (六書), is still being taught at schools in Hong Kong.

The 28th Year

"Two years are going to pass by in the blink of an eye." a friend said to me in a park in Tribunales.

And here I am, 1/4 away from the end of my course, feeling like I haven't done enough already.

Life is too short to live other's dream and spend time on people who do not need my attention. Watching someone's success does not keep me out of the cruel rat race.
